I’m an Independent Film Maker and Video Producer with big dreams and ambitions, with tons I want and need to do & accomplish. There’s ALWAYS something that needs to be done, but never the time to do everything. This is irritating, but also a positive, because being bored and not creating depresses the he– outta me. (typical artist, right?)
I Want be a YouTube Star!
Amidst working on everything I need to do to run this organization and make a living, about two years ago I embarked (like a dog…ruff ruff) on a project that I didn’t actually have the time to fully pursue. But I began posting the videos I was producing for companies (promo pieces) on my own YouTube Channel. Cool, it’s like having my own TV channel! I figured I’d simply post some videos and folks will watch them. I was completely ignorant on how difficult & time consuming it was supposed to be to get videos watched, and to build a following on YouTube. I was also way too busy at the time to research/read about it and really do it right.
My Zumba Music Video gets 1,000,000+ Views
I had recently produced a Music Video, “Zumba Fitness,” for Xtreme Fitness (www.xtremefitsv.com), San Jose Ca. I proudly uploaded the Zumba Music Video onto my Youtube Channel. Than I placed a not-so-thought-out-title, a lame description of the video, and a few tags into the proper places and the video immediately started getting views. Well holy crumb, could I have produced a YouTube Hit? Nahhh, with no big introduction, marketing or promotional campaign, the experts, I found out later, would give such a flick almost NO CHANCE of becoming a YouTube Hit.
Being clueless as us busy arteests can occasionally be, I thought it was ‘normal’ when in it’s second year the flick went viral, reaching 500 than 2500 than 5000 views per day. On Dec 30, 2010, the video surpassed ONE MILLION VIEWS! It’s a frigging HIT, and I didn’t even really realize it until just this past week when I decided to get active in the YouTube Community, start promoting my videos and build my channel. I went onto YouTube and typed in Zumba. There are approx. 59,000 videos uploaded, and after a bit of research, I realized there are only about 15 Zumba Videos with more than 1,000,000 views. I’m a YouTube star and I didn’t know it… Dahh…..
When you’re an addicted entertainer like I am, and you realize that you’ve entertained a million folks, and you get a few hundred comments-compliments saying how great your video is, ….. MMmmmmm that adrenaline rush and some good old fashioned effort is going to take you and your films to places you’ve never been professionally, and even carry over into other aspects of your personal life in a positive-energizing way. You just KNOW you can do it, you can taste it, and now you want it more than anything……even if it is border line(maybe even more than border line) sickness.
So, A YouTube expert Killed me with a Llama
I read Kevin Naltz short e-book, “How to become Popular on YouTube.” Kevin is a self proclaimed “Viral Video Genius” with 20 million+ YouTube Views (willvideoforfood.com). Kevin exclaimed that what I had done on YouTube almost never happens. However, “Sometimes a video is so darned remarkable that it goes viral on its own merit, without any promotion or marketing, etc.” “But please donʹt bet on that, because you have a greater chance of getting killed by a Llama.”
So I guess I better watch out for the Llama, and in the meantime I Plan on devoting much time and effort to figure this YouTube thing out, monetize it, and get millions & millions more views. This will make me a bit of $$$ and be great for my Custom Video Connection promotion and marketing efforts. I’ll be busier than ever, yet still not having time to accomplish everything. After all, us video producers/entertainers need to perform and create so we don’t get bored.
