My Improv Gets Mazeltov from Audience


  • Improv like walking the Plank:
  • The audience are the pirates on the ship, and when the show starts they suggest a topic and than you walk the plank. When you’re on the edge about to fall, if you say/do something funny, you get to come back aboard the boat. Some guys get their rush by dirt biking, rock climbing, skiing off cliffs, jumping outta planes. I get my adrenaline rush when I’m out there on the plank, and I’m letting my entire mind and self be exposed. When the laughs come, they are created from nothing. My need for that rush that others get from actually being close to death, gets satisfied. I feel like I’ve created magic. It’s wonderful

  • Never Nervous
  • I don’t get nervous and I don’t think of the Improv Principals or any of the possibilities. I clear my mind completely and open it up and make it available to everything and anything. This works on stage, when I’m creating a video, playing golf or going to sleep. If I’m thinking of work and/or getting stressed on the golf course, the ball goes anywhere but straight down the fairway. And the more I’m thinking, the more shanks I have that day. :) It’s the same on stage. If I don’t stress or think, than my mind opens up and when it’s time to retort, I’m amazed at my ability to come-back with winners.

  • Improv more rewarding than Stand-up:
  • Stand-up vs. Improv, either way I love entertaining and making people laugh. But the reason I choose to pursue Improv is the material and bits are always fresh, new and completely unrehearsed. When on the stage(plank), you have no idea what’s about to happen, and I really enjoy that challenge. Creating something from nothing, with folks laughing at it is comedy at it’s richest/purest. You never do the same bit again. In stand-up, you develop material and do it over and over every time you perform. I’d rather walk the plank :)
